This vessel was built at Fosen (Norway) and delivered in June 1992.
Birka Shipper is equipped with one Main Engine and 2 Auxiliary engines.
In the year 2001 and due to the severe environmental rules for ships operating in the
Baltic Sea, a catalyst converter was installed after the Main Engine.
Since the catalyst converter requires a dry cleaning system, at the same time one
Infrafone Sonic Soot Cleaner was installed. The commissioning was carried out in October 2001, and
the Infrafone has been in operation ever since.

Some of the benefits that the Sonic Soot Cleaning System has brought to the customer are:

  • No need of other soot cleaning methods for the economizer and catalyst.
  • Reduced wear on economizer tubes.
  • Reduced wear on the catalyst surfaces.
  • Effective neutralisation of NOx emissions due to high performance of the cleaning system.
