Comparison of infrasound and audible sound as an acoustic cleaning method

The acoustic cleaning method used by Infrafone (infrasound) is a low frequency sound, around 20 Hz, well suited for cleaning heat transfer surfaces and other surfaces in big volumes, such as boilers. When comparing infrasound to audible sound as an acoustic cleaning method there are some big differences.

  • Infrasound can generate higher sound levels than audible sound without causing discomfort
  • The longer wavelength enables more acoustic diffraction, less acoustic absorption and makes the acoustic sound omnidirectional
  • Due to the long wavelength of the infrasound, one infrasound generator is enough for cleaning an entire economizer, SCR etc.
