The first two Infrafone Sonic Soot Cleaners, installed in 1999 keep the catalysts and economizers after two main engines clean. A third Infrafone Sonic Soot Cleaner, installed in 2004 is keeping the catalyst after one of the auxiliary engines clean.

Some of the benefits that the Infrafone Sonic Soot Cleaning System has brought to the customer are:

  • Eliminated need of additional cleaning methods
  • Reduced steam consumption
  • Increased lifetime of catalysts and economizers
  • Reduced maintenance costs of economizer and catalyst

The Chief Engineer on the M/V Ortviken, October 25th 2004 has provided the following information:

For the catalysts the sonic cleaners have proven to be so effective that no other soot cleaning devices need to be used. The soot blowers are in fact permanently shut down.
