Prior to the installation of Infrafone’s Sonic Soot Cleaners, the crew used steam soot blowers twice a day in order to keep the boilers clean and to prevent soot fires. Viking XPRS had problems with wet soot on deck and since the vessel is a passenger ship it was important to solve it.

Some of the benefits that the Sonic Soot Cleaning System has brought to the customer are:

  • No need of other soot cleaning methods such as steam soot blowing, chemicals or manual waterwashing for the economizer and catalyst.
  • No soot on deck.
  • Reduced wear of economizer tubes and catalyst surfaces, thus prolonging their lifetime.
  • Effective neutralisation of NOx emissions due to high performance of the cleaning system.
  • Reduced maintenance and related maintenance costs of economizers and catalysts.
